<p>MANILA — More than 300,000 families, or 1.2 million individuals, have been affected by severe tropical storm Opong as of 6 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 26, said National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).</p><p>The agency has so far recorded 14 deaths, 17 injured and 2 missing individuals. Over 50,000 families have been displaced inside and outside evacuation centers.</p><div> </div><div><strong>MASBATE</strong></div><p>A church was destroyed by the flood Opong&#x27;s onslaught in Masbate City in Masbate, where the typhoon’s center made a landfall 4 a.m. today. </p><p>“Yung kumbento kasi, light materials lang ang taas kaya naubos lahat syempre wala nang bubong ganun din totally damaged ang kumbento kasi yung tulo papunta na doon sa amin.,&quot; said Fr. Raymond Rhys Garrucho of Sta. Teresa de Calcutta Parish. </p><p>His room and the new church that is being constructed were destroyed by the strong wind, he added. </p><p>The clergy said a school supposedly used as an evacuation center, and nearby houses made with light materials were also brought down.</p><p>In Pinamarbuhan, Mobo in Masbate, a stream overflowed after fallen trees blocked the waterways.</p><p>Bayan Patroller Aldren Malunes was preparing to open his business in Masbate City when strong winds carried the stores’ tarps in Malinta Public Market.</p><p>&quot;Keep safe mga ka-baboy ang lakas ng hangin at ng ulan,” he said in the reel.</p><p>Electricity is currently out in the province.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/9/25/-walang-pasok-class-suspensions-on-friday-september-26-1222">#Walang Pasok: Class and work suspensions on Friday, September 26</a></div><div><br/></div><div><strong>REST OF BICOL REGION</strong></div><p>More than 24,000 families or 90,000 individuals were displaced in the Bicol region following Opong’s onslaught.</p><p>DSWD Bicol said 10,000 families are currently taking shelter in over 600 evacuation centers in the region. 13,000 families are also temporarily staying in relatives’ residences.</p><p>Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Albay and Sorsogon recorded the highest number of displaced.</p><p>Meanwhile, more than 1,000 vehicles carrying 2,400 passengers were stranded in ports, most in Matnig Port in Sorsogon.</p><p>All flights to Legazpi, Naga, Masbate and Catanduanes have been cancelled.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/business/2025/9/26/list-cancelled-flights-on-september-26-amid-opong-threat-1040">LIST: Cancelled flights on September 26 amid Opong threat</a></div><div> </div><div><strong>EASTERN VISAYAS</strong></div><p>A school in Maasin City in Southern Leyte appeared like in the middle of a river due to the flooding brought by the rains that started Thursday night.</p><p>A part of the school’s walls also collapsed due to strong water current.</p><p>The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Southern Leyte swiftly responded to reports of flooding in Bgy. Guadalipe, still in Maasin City. Children and the elderly were rescued from their residences.</p><p>Roads in Bgy. Roxas District in Quezon City since last night, following the possibility of flooding.</p><p>“Early evacuees ang ginawa ng barangay captain natin, para makaiwas sa baha,” said Oliver Dumlao, Bgy. Roxas District’s Lupong Tagapamayapa.</p><p>Opim Lopiga, who was supposed to travel back home to Samar, is now staying at an evacuation center while the threats brought by flood remain.</p><p>“Inilikas na kami kasing tabing-ilog kami, ‘yung bahay. Lampas tao, mahirap talaga, lagi naman kaming nire-rescue. May pisi na nakatali sa mga pader para mayroon kaming kakapitan,” said Lopiga.</p><p>Another resident, Frisco Angeles, who lives alone and is suffering from an illness, voluntarily came with the barangay.</p><p>“Kinuha lang ako ng barangay mag-isa lang ako rito, kapag mataas ang tubig wala na ako, lubog na talaga. Kahit second floor inaabot.
