2 ICC deputy prosecutors assume leadership as Khan takes leave of absence

The Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court on Monday said Deputy Prosecutors Nazhat Shameem Khan and Mame Mandiaye Niang have assumed leadership, management and administration of the Office following the decision of Prosecutor Karim Khan to take a leave of absence.In a statement, ICC said Prosecutor Khan informed the office that he would go on leave pending investigation into his alleged misconduct.ICC also said Deputy Prosecutors Khan and Niang would ensure that continuity of the Office of the Prosecutor’s activities across all areas of work.The governing body of the ICC earlier announced an external investigation into alleged misconduct by Khan, who has denied the allegations.<div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/world/2025/5/16/icc-prosecutor-under-investigation-steps-aside-temporarily-2324">READ: ICC prosecutor, under investigation, steps aside temporarily</a></div>Khan hit the headlines last year when he sought ICC arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, former defense minister Yoav Gallant, and three top Hamas leaders.Khan is also the chief prosecutor in the crimes against humanity allegations against detained former Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte.
