Students at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities staged a walkout and held a rally on Monday to protest the presence of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and what they described as growing fear in their community.Chanting &quot;ICE out&quot; and &quot;No hate, no fear, immigrants are welcome here,&quot; demonstrators gathered to hear speeches from fellow students who said recent enforcement activity had left many on campus afraid to leave their homes.Juliet, a student organizer, said anxiety had disrupted daily life for her and her friends, regardless of their immigration status.&quot;People are really afraid and they have a right to be,&quot; she said. &quot;Just on our campus, we have ICE agents staying just a few streets away here in Cedar-Riverside, in the neighborhood nearing ours, they faced so much brutality and violence the past couple of weeks.&quot;Joe Kyle, a senior majoring in political science, said the situation is &quot;surreal&quot; and &quot;scary,&quot; but personally feels &quot;a moral duty to get involved in this kind of stuff and to organize my community as much as I can and help out as much as I can, because sitting on the sidelines, just frankly, in my opinion, is not an option when you&#x27;re here in the middle of it.&quot;Kyle said students were also organizing supply efforts to deliver groceries and winter clothing to people who do not feel safe going outside and have begun informal patrols to report ICE sightings on and around campus.<div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/world/2026/1/27/trump-sends-top-official-to-minneapolis-after-killing-sparks-backlash-0049">READ: Trump sends top official to Minneapolis after killing sparks backlash</a></div>Students called for the abolition of ICE.&quot;ICE has no place in our city and we are here today to scream it from the rooftops,&quot; said a student. &quot;And we will not stop until our voices are heard from the mayor&#x27;s office to the White House. We will not stop until ICE is out of Minneapolis and out of this country.&quot;&quot;None of us are going to stop and we showed up in subzero temperatures to show that,&quot; said Sam. &quot;It&#x27;s only going to get easier as it warms up and the Twin Cities belong to us. It doesn&#x27;t belong to them. And together we&#x27;re going to take it back. And I&#x27;ve seen the community come together and when that happens, I know we&#x27;re going to get them out and I know that&#x27;s the only way this ends.&quot;&quot;Their goal is to be violent and to harm our communities,&quot; Juliet said. &quot;I don&#x27;t want them here. I don&#x27;t want them in our city.
