Photo by David Cervera</div>CALIFORNIA — A Filipino-American was one of the 71 recruits who graduated from Class 487 of the Los Angeles County Sheriff&#x27;s Department Academy, a program known for its unforgiving standards and elite training.Noah Llorente, an active member of the United States Marine Corps, was the only Filipino-American graduate in the class.As a Marine, Llorente said he lives by the ethos of honor, courage, and commitment, and those same principles now guide his path into the world of public safety.According to Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna, the academy&#x27;s rigorous training is designed to prepare recruits for the realities of law enforcement.Within the ranks of the 71 graduates, Llorente&#x27;s presence carried additional meaning, as Filipino-Americans have long served with distinction in the United States Armed Forces and law enforcement agencies.For Llorente, the discipline he developed in the United States Marine Corps prepared him for the academy&#x27;s grueling demands, and his determination carried him through the program’s most challenging moments.The ceremony also marked a historic milestone for the Los Angeles County Sheriff&#x27;s Department Academy. For the first time in its history, an individual on the autism spectrum was recognized as an honorary graduate, receiving a special citation from the department.
