Find the strength in them: Strong Kapamilya female characters to look up to this Women's Month

March 10, 2022 AT 11:41 AM

Every night, strong, relatable women entertain viewers and exemplify what it means to be an empowered woman via ABS-CBN’s primetime shows. For International Women’s Month, we highlight the strong Kapamilya female characters who fearlessly rise above their struggles as a mother, wife, and daughter.

Here are five teleserye female characters who will inspire you to be the best version of yourself:

  1. Jodi Sta. Maria as Jill in “The Broken Marriage Vow” - a loving mother and a feisty woman

“Pagkatapos nang lahat ng nalaman ko, gusto kong bumalik ang dignidad ko… Lalaban. At patuloy na lalaban,” Jill declared menacingly after discovering her husband David’s (Zanjoe Marudo) two-year affair with Lexy (Sue Ramirez). At first, Jill allowed herself to drown in her sorrow because of the betrayal of David and all of their close friends.

However, Jill slowly found the strength to overcome her seemingly insurmountable problems. Jill isn’t only seeking revenge to get back at David and Lexy, but she is protecting what she holds dear - her dignity, her only son Gio (Zaijian Jaranilla), and her hard-earned money. While she seeks vengeance, she is still a loving mother and a caring doctor who always puts the well-being of others ahead of her interests.

  1. Julia Montes as Mara in “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano” - a fearless assassin out to protect her family

Coming from a family of farmers-turned-elite assassins, Mara was trained to have a “warrior mentality.” She never backs down from any of their group’s missions, and at one point, she even single-handedly took down a group of armed men who threatened to kill her. But more than her headstrong personality, Mara truly cares for her family and is determined to make her parents proud.

Mara is zeroed-in on making Don Ignacio (Tommy Abuel) pay for all of his crimes, including his mass assassination of Mara’s relatives. Despite the risk it entails, Mara consistently displays her bravery as she vows to protect her loved ones.

  1. Sharon Cuneta as Aurora in “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano” - a headstrong lady with a compassionate heart

Despite coming from one of the wealthiest families in the country, Aurora never felt entitled to anything in life and has always worked hard to get what she wants. She also gives a lot of importance to her values and principles as a person, which is why she promises to end her father’s illegal activities.

Aurora exudes elegance and strength but remains humble and compassionate to the less fortunate. However, her most courageous act yet was finding the strength to forgive her ailing father after he mercilessly attempted to kill her boyfriend and their baby.

  1. Charlie Dizon as Rica in “Viral Scandal” - a resilient girl with a big heart to fight for other women

Since the start, Rica showed a never-give-up attitude in battling the Ramones to obtain justice after the viral video destroyed her life and reputation. Despite the traumas she experienced, she bravely continued her life and pursued her dream to be a licensed architect.

Not only does she fight for her justice, but also for the voiceless women who were victims like her. She is a role model to her girl officemates, especially Rose (Arielle Roces), to never back down amidst the struggles life may bring.

  1. Dimples Romana as Kakay in “Viral Scandal” - a selfless and bold mother

As soon as she learned about Rica's viral video, Kakay immediately left her stable career abroad to support her daughter's fight for justice.

Knowing that she has little knowledge about her daughter's case, she researched it to understand her daughter better. She also fought the bashers and trolls paid by Audrey (Maxene Magalona), who spread fake news about them on social media, even if she knew her past with Rica’s biological father, Troy (Jake Cuenca) would resurface.

Without anyone's support, she now traces down Ella (Aya Fernandez), who suffered the same fate as Rica, who was raped by Jigs (Markus Patterson), to help them in their battle.
