ABS-CBN TVplus sold 6.1 M boxes; 71% of Metro Manila non-cabled homes now own digital terrestrial TV

Almost three-fourths of non-cabled homes in Metro Manila are now watching television via digital terrestrial television (DTT), driven primarily by the robust sales of ABS-CBN TVplus that has already sold 6.1 million units as of October 10 since its launch in 2015.

Almost three-fourths of non-cabled homes in Metro Manila are now watching television via digital terrestrial television (DTT), driven primarily by the robust sales of ABS-CBN TVplus that has already sold 6.1 million units as of October 10 since its launch in 2015.

Based on the latest establishment survey conducted by Kantar Media in August, a growing number of Filipinos are now watching television via digital terrestrial TV. In Metro Manila alone, 71.6% of non-cabled homes have an ABS-CBN TVplus box, compared to 55% in August 2017. Meanwhile, in Mega Manila, non-cabled homes that are enjoying the benefits of ABS-CBN TVplus rose to 64.7% from 44% in the same period last year.

The biggest growth in DTT penetration is in the suburbs as Kantar Media reported that 57% or more than half of non-cabled homes in the area now watch television using an ABS-CBN TVplus box, compared to only 33% in August 2017 – a 24-percentage point increase in consumer acquisition.

The continuous migration of viewers from analog to digital shows their eagerness to enjoy the life-changing benefits of ABS-CBN TVplus that include clear TV viewing, crisp sound, more exclusive channels, and an affordable pay-per-view service with no monthly fees.

ABS-CBN, which is rapidly transitioning into an agile digital company, is also leading the country’s departure from analog following the government’s mandate for all broadcasting companies to migrate to digital TV before 2023. It is also the first media and entertainment company in the country to make the historic switch from analog to digital terrestrial television to transform the TV viewing experience of Filipinos when it launched ABS-CBN TVplus in 2015.

ABS-CBN TVplus offers free TV channels ABS-CBN and ABS-CBN S+A, as well as exclusive channels like CineMo, an all-day movie channel; YeY, an all-day children’s entertainment channel; Knowledge Channel, an educational channel that airs curriculum-based programs for primary and secondary students; and DZMM TeleRadyo, which offers the live broadcast of programs from DZMM Radyo Patrol 630.

In July 2018, ABS-CBN TVplus introduced new channels that are initially available in Metro Manila, Rizal, Cavite, Laguna, Metro Cebu, and Cagayan de Oro. These are Asianovela Channel, the first and only channel on digital free TV that airs uncut Asian dramas and movies and Movie Central, the first all-English movie channel on digital free TV. MYX, Jeepney TV, and O Shopping, a home TV shopping channel, complete the additional channel line-up of ABS-CBN TVplus. Only O Shopping will be accessible permanently free of charge, while the other four new channels will be on free trial until the end of the year.

ABS-CBN TVplus continuously expands its signal coverage areas that include Metro Manila, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pangasinan, Rizal, Laguna, Pampanga, Tarlac, Benguet, Cavite, Metro Cebu, Cagayan De Oro, Iloilo, Bacolod, and Davao.
