Kapamilya moms Winnie, Amy, and Jing get emotional with story of blind mother

Kapamilya moms Winnie Cordero, Jing Castañeda, and Amy Perez got emotional as ABS-CBN News shared an original “Mission Possible” feature about a blind mother and her daughter with Down Syndrome who, despite her own disability, served as the “eyes” to her mother.

“I cried! It’s just amazing how a blind mother is helped by her young daughter in spite of her own incapacities,” said  Umagang Kay Ganda’s (UKG) Winnie Cordero or “Tita Winnie” upon watching the video.

The episode, which is part of ABS-CBN’s month long campaign to honor mothers everyday, features Nanay Elsa and her daughter Sarah bond as they traverse the city from their house to Sarah’s school.

Tita Winnie went on to share that it reinforces her belief of the acceptance that the world is not perfect. “We have to accept our limitations as moms and we need to embrace that and may bagay na di mo kayang controlin. Kailangan din natin mag-let go, magdasal at hingin ang basbas ng Panginoon for peace of mind and magawa ang mga dapat gawin in the midst of chaos,” she said.

Meanwhile, “Salamat Dok”’s  Jing Castañeda reflected on her own personal experiences as a mother after watching the video and couldn’t help but shed tears. “It brought tears to my eyes. As a Mom I realized that we can learn a lot from our children. It’s a partnership. It’s a journey together. Just like this child, Nanay can’t live without her and vice versa. The more we are aware that our children are our partners, the more we are able to mold them properly and not just lecture them,” she said.

“Be informed. Be involved. Find your passion. It captures what it means to live. You can help in any way you can and you must pass on that information,” Jing continued.

Also of UKG, Amy “Tyang Amy” Perez realized how blessed the mother and daughter tandem are as they still helped each other despite the odds. “I am overjoyed. You can still see how God works wonders. It’s also heartwarming to see how Nanay Elsa and Sarah are full of happiness, you won’t see any complaints from them. Appreciation is very important.”

She encouraged fellow mothers to learn to balance everything and take each day as it comes because there will always be bad days. It is important to delegate to husbands too and learn that raising children is a partnership.

ABS-CBN News kicked-off its month long celebration for mothers with a #JustLoveYouNay video of a “Mission Possible” feature last May 6.  The complete episode of “Mission Possible” first aired last March 5.

This will be followed by another feature on May 12, this time, about five vegetable vendors from Cavite who happily welcome each challenge with a smile.

ABS-CBN supports this endeavor with segment features in ABS-CBN news programs and heightened digital awareness for a month long “Just Love You Nay” celebration, treating it not just Mother’s day, but May as Mother’s month.

ABS-CBN encourages Kapamilyas to express their love for their moms by saying #JustLoveYouNay through social media posts and message to show how much we care for them.
