ABS-CBN’s child-friendly programs to represent PH

Award-winning educational program “Matanglawin” and Knowledge Channel won three awards for ABS-CBN at the 2019 Sinebata Awards for producing child-friendly, family-oriented, and value-laden content.
With their victory, all three Kapamilya awardees are considered as official entries of the Philippines to the 3rd Southeast Asia Video Festival for Children (SEAVFC), which will be held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia this November, competing against the best works from the neighboring Southeast Asian countries.
“Matanglawin” claimed the award in the Professional Non-Fiction category for kids aged 8-12 for its ‘United in Love’ episode, where they featured children who at a young age display selflessness with their respective advocacies.
Meanwhile, Knowledge Channel’s “Kwentong Pambata: Si Bino, Si Buboy, at si Bantay,” which aimed to educate children about proper care and handling of pets, won in the Professional Fiction Under 7 category.
“Kwentong Kartero: Teenage Dream or Nightmare,” on the other hand, ruled the Professional Fiction 13-17 Years category as it discussed topics such as love and teenage pregnancy to make teenagers aware of the consequences of their choices and actions.
The Sinebata Awards, held on Wednesday (October 2) at the Manila Prince Hotel, is a festival and competition of creators of videos for and by children from the Philippines convened by Anak TV, an advocacy organization that promotes television literacy and child-sensitive, family-friendly television in the Philippines. Present during the awarding were Knowledge Channel Foundation Inc. president and executive director Rina Lopez-Bautista, “Rated K” anchor Korina Sanchez-Roxas, and Kapamilya artist Toni Gonzaga.
The SEAVFC, on the other hand, convenes ten countries in Southeast Asia to promote, celebrate, and honor the highest quality in youth and children’s television. It aims to foster an appreciation of the different cultures in Southeast Asia and promote good family traditions that will lead to mutual respect, harmony, and understanding throughout the region.
