Arellano U bags NCAA Cheerleading three-peat

Arellano U went for three!

The Arellano University (AU) Chiefsquad came, saw, and conquered the NCAA Cheearleading Competition, which aired LIVE on ABS-CBN S+A and S+A HD from the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay city last March 28.

The win secures the seventh title of the Chiefsquad in the competition, and puts them in rare air along with first runner-up University of Perpetual Help System Dalta (UPHSD) Altas Perpsquad. The Mapua University Cheerping Cardinals was named the second runner-up for this edition, one year after being bounced by San Beda University (SBU) from the podium. AU scored 229.5 points for their championship-winning routine, while UPHSD got 222.5, and Mapua got 211.5.

Before the awarding ceremonies for the Cheerleading Competition however, the champion teams from each of the events in the Juniors and Seniors competition were feted in front of the NCAA Community. SBU claimed another general championship in the Seniors division, their seventh in school history, with championships in Basketball, Volleyball, and Swimming to name a few. Meanwhile, UPHSD finally bagged their first Juniors general championship trophy.

NCAA panelist Andrei Felix and former “Pinoy Big Brother” housemate Dawn Chang hosted the final competition for the NCAA this season. Meanwhile, Kapamilya actress, and Star Music artist, Janella Salvador opened the cheerleading festivities with a sizzling song and dance number, much to the delight of the crowd.

Prior to winning their third-straight title, it seemed as if Arellano was on the brink of missing out on their three-peat as Colegio De San Juan De Letran, College of St. Benilde, and SBU wowed the crowd with clean performances and amazing stunts, to challenge the champions to the best of their abilities. Other competing squads were the Jose Rizal University Pep Squad and the Emilio Aguinaldo College Pep Squad.
