Homeschooling is progressively becoming a viable option for parents in the Philippines and international speakers and couple Edric and Joy Mendoza impart their own experience on this education approach for their children in “Why You Should Homeschool,” published by ABS-CBN Books.
“Emancipated from the confines of the classroom-based and teacher-led learning, homeschool families tend to see the world as their ‘classroom,’” according to the book.
Edric, a former TV anchor of ANC’s “On The Money,” and Joy, a bestselling author and blogger of the awarded site Teach With Joy, are parents of six children and together they went into the journey of homeschooling their kids.
Joy strongly believes that parents make the best teachers. “We have the motivation to help our children succeed and we have the sensitivity to detect whether they are ‘getting it’ or not,” she stressed.
Meanwhile, Edric shared the benefits of homeschooling to parents in the book. “Quite ironically, one of the greatest beneficiaries of homeschooling is the parent. Nearly 24/7 contact with our children compels us to change for the better,” the founder of Homeschool Association of the Philippine Islands (HAPI) and president of Homeschool Global said.
Divided into five parts, “Why You Should Homeschool” talks about the learning climate today, overview of homeschooling, how it is in the Philippine context, a step-by-step guide, and survival tips and tricks. It also provides valuable resources for parents to jump-start their homeschooling choice.
The book got rave reviews from advocates of home education.
