myx, Kollective Hustle, TFC and Cache Creek Present Sold-out Sacramento Kings’ “Filipino Roots Night”

CLOCKWISE FROM TOP LEFT: Providing top-notch entertainment at the sold-out Sacramento Kings’ Filipino Roots Night are SACBxY, P-Lo, One Vo1ce, ABS-CBN Global Head of Music and Talent Roslynn Cobarrubias for myx and ABS-CBN Kollective Hustle Head Romeo Marquez, Ruby Ibarra and MBNel.

NBA’s Sacramento Kings held their biggest Filipino Roots Night yet featuring elite Northern California talents tapped by the myx team that included P-Lo, SACBxY (Phil Tayag), Ruby Ibarra, MBNel & One Vo1ce. The sold-out event was co-hosted with Kollective Hustle, an ABS-CBN group created to empower the next generation of entrepreneurs and creatives in turning their passion into a profession.

Over 17,000+ people in attendance got to enjoy a myx x Kollective Hustle pre-game show featuring rapper MBNel from Stockton, and Ruby Ibarra, a UC Davis graduate who is not only a rapper/lyricist but also a scientist. The first 150 people to arrive with ticket purchase received a complimentary Filipino Roots Night x Kollective Hustle collab T-Shirt in Sacramento Kings colors that was printed by Filipino-owned printing company, Imadri Company. There was also an official Kings Roots Night hat in red, blue and yellow bucket hat, designed by the Kings teams.

Hometown hero, SACBxY, also known as Phil Tayag -- who’s best known for his choreography and appearance alongside Bruno Mars in music videos like “Finesse” with Cardi B. and his live performances at the Super Bowl with Beyonce and at the 2016 GRAMMYS -- not only danced with his TRYBE crew, but performed his own original song as well, singing his new single, “in mY way,” for the first time that features the “SACBxY” dance craze popular on TikTok. He recently released a music video for the song that was shot live during rehearsals and during the live performance.

“Some people have always known me as a music artist, some others have known me as a dancer, and didn’t realize it was the same person because I kind of kept it separate. It’s cool for people to see it come together now here in my hometown,” said SACBxy.

Multi-platinum producer P-Lo performed at halftime. He has worked with top artists like Chris Brown & G-Eazy and is no stranger to performing at professional sporting events. He recently performed in Miami during Super Bowl weekend and alongside E-40 during the 49ers NFL Playoff game. Also booked by the myx team, P-Lo has performed during the Golden State Warriors Filipino Heritage Night and is a frequent guest speaker at various Kollective Hustle events. He enjoys giving back to his community and representing children of immigrant parents “to show them that the impossible is possible.”

Following the game, P-Lo led his Team P-Lo to a victory over Team Anthony Presents in the Fil-Am Celebrity/Influencer and Entrepreneur game. Team P-Lo received exclusive Filipino Roots Night myx x Imadri Company championship hats alongside bragging rights. Few know that P-Lo played basketball in junior college and is a star on the court. 97.7FM KWIN radio host & influencer, Nikki Blades took home the MVP award.

"Every community, every group of people want to be recognized, so it's cool to have these big brands and these big professional teams acknowledge that we are here,” said P-Lo. “I played basketball in junior college, growing up Filipino, basketball was such a big part of my life, so it's always fun to hoop it up on the court after these heritage nights, like we did for three years at the Staples Center and now in Northern Cali in Sac against Team Anthony Presents."

Filipina group, One Vo1ce, recently reunited to record their fourth album.  They sang the national anthem in a unique way that blew the audience away. Other highlights included various Filipino food items available for purchase by Kings Filipino Chef JayDel like the lechon sisig rice bowls and lechon-loaded tatertots, as well as the Lumpia Company’s famous cheeseburger and tinola lumpias created by Chef Alex Retodo.

The night also featured New Jersey Sets’ exclusive Filipino Roots Night jerseys. The company creates custom clothing for high profile TV shows like MTV’s Nick Cannon’s Wild N’ Out and is owned by Filipino husband and wife, Kevin and Jackie Grey. The team gives back to the community by having a company based in the Philippines that designs and creates the specialty jerseys for specialty events/teams. myx x Kollective Hustle co-branded New Jersey sets “Filipino Roots Night” jerseys are currently on sale for a limited time at newjerseysets.com.

In the near future, there will be more integration of heritage or root nights in every major sport in select cities across the country including 6/2 at Dodger Stadium with Baseballogist and at the Staples Center at the end of the year to celebrate Filipino Heritage Night.
