Kabayan shows viewers the act of ‘pagpag’ this Sunday

Noli de Castro discovers 35 peacock breeds housed in a Calamba bird farm this Sunday (November 20) in “KBYN: Kaagapay ng Bayan.”

Bird enthusiast and businessman Joel Alcasid showcases his colorful feathered friends, which he breeds and sells at the Alcasid Aviary and Farm. His farm specializes in raising different exotic breeds, like the Blue Peafowl and the Purple Spaulding Peahen. Aside from peafowls, Joel also breeds various types of chickens, geese, guinea fowls, etc.

As a way of reintroducing the ancient tradition of marking one’s skin, KBYN features two tattoo collectors, Angelo Cruz and Angelie Pench, whose bodies are inked with intricate and meaningful designs. Angelo and Angelie debunks myths and societal prejudices against the art of tattooing.

Meanwhile, KBYN also follows Tondo resident Magdalena Maredo, whose daily routine consists of scavenging for leftovers at fast food restaurants. Colloquially called ‘pagpag’, this act is the only way of survival for some of our Kababayans. After collecting the leftover food, they clean and recook it, then feed it to their families or sell it to others.
