Fil-Am behind bars in PH on drug charges

A 26-year old American citizen from Madison, Wisconsin is behind bars in the Philippine on drug charges.

Orion Alfonso Hamre-Tamayo is charged with drug smuggling.

He was arrested on May 20 after picking up a package containing 30 vape e-cigarette cartridges containing liquid THC, the active ingredient in marijuana, at local customs.

Tamayo claimed he does not know the sender of the package which came from China. His mother Davina Stewart believes he was set-up and is innocent.

According to Stewart, Tamaya has never had a run-in with the law.

Tamayo has dual citizenship in America and the Philippines.

In 2011, Tamayo moved to the Philippines.

He is currently being held at the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency headquarters in Quezon City.

The state department said it is following along with the case and providing consular services to Tamayo.
