You guys are making the streets dirty.’ and I was like ‘Hold on, is she talking about us right now?’ Because I couldn’t believe it,” said Jenny Vela.Jenny, a Filipina-American, and her husband, Alfred, a Mexican-American, said that despite growing up in a diverse place like Daly City, they were shocked at this type of discrimination.“It’s not right that we have to put up with this type of bigotry, racism, prejudice behavior especially coming from an elderly woman,” said Alfred. The video has been viewed over half a million times.“We’re thankful that everyone is able to see this. And we have a community that supports us and loves us,” Jenny saidAlfred added, “I just want to thank everyone for sharing it, commenting…because it’s a conversation that needs to be had.” Fil-Am Daly City Mayor Juslyn Manalo said she was shocked and disappointed to see a hateful attack like this in her city.“Hearing the racial slurs and also the anti-immigrant sentiment was something I would have never expected at a local grocery store we all go to. People in our community need to know that this is something the Daly City or myself as mayor, condone,” said Manalo.Manalo cited a resolution Daly City passed last year to ensure inclusion of all people while denouncing racism and bigotry. After speaking with the police chief, Mayor Manalo said that incidents of racism and hate are not typical for Daly City.“There hasn’t been a rise in that, thankfully.
