A Filipina maltreated by her employers in Russia is finally back home. Racquel Fabroz Dela Cruz was repatriated by the Department of Foreign Affairs on Sept. 18, 2017 and has been reunited with her family.Dela Cruz had worked for a couple in Russia for two years. According to her statements documented by local media in Yakutsk, Dela Cruz supposedly planned to transfer to another agency because of delayed wages and overtime payments. She said her employers also held on to her belongings to prevent her from leaving.In a desperate move to escape, Dela Cruz jumped from a second floor apartment where she was illegally detained. Her fall broke her back and left leg. The Philippine embassy in Moscow immediately responded. After seven months of recuperating, Dela Cruz was well enough to travel to be with her family. A representative from the embassy accompanied her on her trip home.“We are very pleasured that our kababayan is finally able to return to the Philippines with her family after the ordeal that she went through,” Philippine Ambassador to Moscow Carlos Sorreta said in a Facebook post.
