MANILA -- The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday said the Chinese national abducted in Bustos, Bulacan was involved in the Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO).

PNP spokesperson Brigadier General Jean Fajardo said initial profiling by the Anti-Kidnapping Group revealed that the 33-year-old victim had connections to POGO.

A ransom of approximately P5 million has already been paid by the victim's side through cryptocurrency, but he has not yet been released. Authorities are actively tracking the transaction.

"One of the challenges confronting the Anti-Kidnapping Group is the payment was done outside of the Philippine jurisdiction. Cryptocurrency ang naging payment po so we are now coordinating…with our foreign counterparts to at least trace kung saan bumagsak po itong ibinayad na mga more or less na P5 million na ibinayad po in 2 tranches na ibinayad po na ransom kahapon," Fajardo said.

Search and rescue operations for the foreigner are still ongoing.

The victim was abducted by four unidentified men armed with armalites while fishing in the Angat River in Barangay Tibagan, Bustos, along with other Chinese citizens early Sunday morning.

He was then taken to a vehicle that fled toward the bypass road in Barangay Bonga Menor.
