CAVITE — Two persons died during the onslaught of severe tropical storm Kristine in Cavite province, disaster monitoring centers reported Friday.

Erwin Valero of the Noveleta Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office said one man was electrocuted as the storm caused massive flooding and destruction in Barangay Santa Rosa I.

The Ylang-Ylang River overflowed on Thursday, causing severe flooding and toppling vehicles, including a bus.

Noveleta is a coastal area and a catch basin for neighboring towns.

Over 70 houses and other infrastructure, including three schools and a market, were damaged by the tropical cyclone.

“Heavily affected po ang ating coastal areas lalo na po ‘yong mga may umapaw po na dam and rivers po,” said Nika Cajulis, public information officer of Cavite.

Cavite has been placed under a state of calamity. This will enable the provincial government to immediately access P20 million in quick response fund for relief efforts.

“The provincial government of Cavite is working directly with regards to chief executives para po maibigay ang tulong sa mga nasalanta,” Cajulis said.
