MANILA (UPDATE) — The state weather service on Monday afternoon raised Wind Signal No. 4 over parts of northern Luzon where Typhoon Nika was already blowing violent winds and dumping heavy rains earlier in the day that could spawn flooding and landslides.

PAGASA said in its 5 p.m. bulletin that Nika was over the Cordillera Administrative Region, particularly in the vicinity of Besao, Mountain Province. It was packing maximum sustained winds of 120 kilometers per hour and up to 200 kph gusts. The cyclone follows the west-northwestward track at 25 kph.

State forecasters raised Signal No. 4 over Kalinga, Mountain Province, the northern portion of Ifugao, the central and southern portion of Abra, and the northern and central portions of Ilocos Sur.
