Authorities are investigating a hit-and-run incident that killed a 7-year-old in Sikatuna, Bohol this week.

The boy was on board a motorcycle with his pregnant mother and his father, who was driving them along the national highway of Barangay Poblacion 1.

CCTV footage showed that a van tried to overtake them but collided with the motorcycle.

“Due to the impact, the motorcycle crashed on the road,” said Bohol police spokesperson PLtCol. Norman Nuez.

The van fled from the area while rescuers were trying to help the passengers.

The two adults on the motorcycle survived, but their son and unborn child both died.

On Wednesday night, the 36-year-old van driver surrendered to the Maritime Police Office in Tagbilaran City.

He said he got scared on the night of the incident, thinking that neighbors might go after him if he stopped to check on the victims.

Charges of reckless imprudence resulting to homicide, physical injury and damage to property were being prepared against him.
