The parents who lost their 7-year-old son and unborn child in a hit-and-run incident in Sikatuna, Bohol appealed for justice on Friday. 

The boy, his father, and pregnant mother were on board a motorcycle when a closed van tried to overtake and hit them instead earlier this week, CCTV footage showed. 

The van driver fled from the scene and only surrendered a day later. 

Elizer Biatinggo, driver of the motorcycle, said he and his family were on their way to buy rice when the accident happened.  

He said his wife had made hand signals to the van driver moments before the collision.  

“Pagtingin ko sa side mirror, malayo pa siya. Pagkaliwa ko, doon na… malapit na pala siya. Ayun, tinamaan niya kami. Nakita niya naman kami kasi huminto siya, bigla na lang siya humarurot,” he said in a phone interview. 

He said the collision sent his son and wife flying to the other side of the road.  

“Yung anak ko, duguan na… Sumigaw ako ng tulong, tabang. Walang lumalapit,” he said.

He said it took some time before the ambulance arrived to bring them to the nearest hospital, where his son and unborn child were declared dead on arrival. 

Biatinggo and his wife sustained wounds and bruises. They are both recuperating at a hospital in Tagbilaran City. His wife Jecjec will have to undergo a procedure to deliver her stillborn baby. 

“Hindi ko pa siya (suspek) nakakausap, hindi ko alam kung anong gagawin ko sa kaniya. Mag-file talaga kami ng case, para mabigyan ng hustisya ang dalawa kong anak,” Biatinggo said.

Biatinggo and his wife have been married for 8 years. They have no other children. 

Biatinggo works as a waiter at a restaurant while his wife is a quality assurance officer at a poultry farm.

The Biatinggo couple is seeking financial help for their hospital bills and their children’s burial. 

The Sikatuna police said charges were filed against the 36-year-old van driver on Thursday.
