The death toll from Typhoon Aghon has risen to six with at least 4 people killed due to fallen trees, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said Thursday.

In its 8 a.m. situational report, the NDRRMC said five of the deaths were recorded in Quezon province, where three people were killed by falling trees and two more died due to drowning. All of them were males.

The sixth fatality was from Misamis Oriental—a 14-year-old female who was crushed to death by a tree that was toppled by Aghon’s strong winds.

According to the NDRRMC, a total of 51,858 individuals or 16,404 families have been affected by Typhoon Aghon.

Meanwhile, the number of injured individuals remains at eight. No missing people were reported due to the typhoon.

Aghon totally destroyed 4 houses and partially damaged 18 others in Eastern Visayas, according to NDRRMC.

Of the 109 cities and municipalities affected by power interruptions, 96 have their supply back.

Water supply has also been restored in 8 of 9 affected areas.

Communication lines were likewise restored in 3 of 4 affected areas.

The agency has also logged 3 affected airports and 60 affected seaports due to Aghon.

Assistance worth P6.77 million has been given by the national and local governments to affected individuals, the NDRRMC said.

Weather bureau PAGASA said the occurrence of scattered rainshowers, frequent thunderstorms, the passage of Typhoon “Aghon”, and the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) over the past few days have brought significant rains over the western sections of Luzon and Visayas and signifies the start of the rainy season in the country.
