Weather bureau PAGASA on Friday said it is monitoring 2 low pressure areas that may develop into tropical cyclones in the Philippine area of responsibility.<div><img alt="Two LPAs threaten PH, may develop into cyclones" src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1721355075100weather-07192024.jpg" class="fr-fic fr-dii"/></div>As of 4 p.m. July 19, the first LPA was spotted 385 kilometers west northwest of Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro over the West Philippine Sea. PAGASA said the LPA may develop into a tropical cyclone while moving away from the Philippine landmass.The second LPA is located 865 km east of Eastern Visayas and may also form into a tropical cyclone while moving northwestward over the Philippine Sea.The weather bureau predicts no landfall scenario for now.The LPA on the west is also expected to move away from the coutry, exit the Philippine area of responsibility this weekend, and head towards southern China.The LPA on the east, meanwhile, will move northwestward but remain offshore away from Luzon. It is also expected to enhance the southwest monsoon or habagat by Sunday.It added, whichever of the LPAs form into a tropical cyclone first inside PAR will be named Butchoy and the other Carina.Meanwhile, afternoon and evening thunderstorms are expected in northern Luzon by Saturday, while habagat rains are expected over western Luzon beginning Saturday afternoon.Rains are also expected over western and southern Mindanao Saturday morning, while afternoon thunderstorms may prevail over Bukidnon and Caraga over the weekend.Metro Manila will still experience sunny and humid conditions through early afternoon, with possible thunderstorms by Saturday afternoon and monsoon rains from Sunday afternoon. with a report by Ariel Rojas, ABS-CBN News
