Photo courtesy of PCG</span></span></span></div><div><br/></div><p>MANILA — A Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) official said Wednesday the extraction of 1.4 million liters of industrial oil from the sunken MT Terranova in Manila Bay is expected to be completed in two weeks as it kicked off the “full blast” siphoning.</p><div><a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/2024/7/31/oil-spill-affecting-bataan-coastal-town-2025">• Bataan town reels from oil spill</a></div><p>Lt. Cdr. Michael John Encina, commander of Coast Guard Station Bataan, said about 200,000 liters of oil are expected to be siphoned out from the motor tanker daily following the installation of two booster pumps from Singapore on Tuesday, according to estimates by the contracted salvor Harbor Star Shipping Services, Inc.</p><p>The booster pumps increased the siphoning of oil from 200 liters per hour to 9,000 liters per hour, according to Encina.</p><div><a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/2024/8/5/pcg-oil-sheen-from-mtkr-terranova-contained-1016">• PCG: Oil sheen from MTKR Terranova contained</a></div><p>“This is the full blast siphoning na po natin,” Encina told reporters in an online briefing.</p><p>“We are expecting that this activity will flourish. At the same time, tuloy-tuloy po ‘yong kanilang ginagawa, katulong po natin silang nagbabantay at nagka-conduct ng containment dito po sa motor tanker Terranova,” he added.</p><div><a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/2024/8/1/oil-spill-cavite-shores-2128">• LOOK: MTKR Terranova&#x27;s oil creeps on Cavite shores</a></div><p>The salvage operations for the sunken ship will follow after the siphoning.</p><p>Encina said the oil sheen at ground zero was thin, covering an area of less than 500 meters, and there have been only minimal oil leaks of less than 1 liter per hour.</p><p>“It’s properly contained.
