Oil spills from recent sunken ships in the area have affected the fish and livelihood of residents. <em>Jonathan Celllona, ABS-CBN News</em></span></span></span></div><p>MANILA — At least 790 liters of oil-water mixture and five sacks of contaminated oil debris have been collected from the grounded Marine Vessel Mirola-1 in Bataan province, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said on Monday.</p><p>PCG spokesperson Rear Admiral Armando Balilo said absorbent pads are being used to collect the spilled oil from MV Mirola-1.</p><p>“Mano-mano ‘yong ginagawa nating siphoning o pagkolekta ng langis sapagkat hindi naman masyadong marami,” he told reporters.</p><p>MV Mirola-1, which ran aground in the vicinity waters of Sitio Quiapo, Barangay Biaan, Mariveles, Bataan on July 31, was carrying diesel fuel. </p><p>The fuel is a light type of oil that can dissipate in the ocean through natural weathering, according to Bataan oil spill response incident commander Lieutenant Commander Michael John Encina.</p><p>The PCG continues to carry out oil recovery and containment operations while also monitoring the oil spill booms in the affected area.</p><p>Mirola-1 is the third vessel to cause an oil leak in Bataan this month.</p><div><a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/regions/2024/7/31/vessel-runs-aground-off-the-coast-of-bataan-causing-another-oil-spill-1942" id="isPasted" style="box-sizing:border-box;color:rgb(93, 155, 192);text-decoration:none;letter-spacing:normal;orphans:2;text-align:start;text-indent:0px;text-transform:none;widows:2;word-spacing:0px;-webkit-text-stroke-width:0px;white-space:normal;background-color:rgb(255, 255, 255)">READ: Another oil spill off the coast of Mariveles, Bataan; crew members of ship nowhere to be found</a></div><p>The PCG is also responding to the oil spill from MTKR Terranova with 1.4 million liters of industrial fuel oil and MTKR Jason Bradley with 5,500 liters of diesel.</p><p>According to PCG, “very thin oil sheens” are still observed at ground zero, as of Monday, but control measures are in place, including oil spill booms laid, skimmers on site, and oil dispersants being employed, while fabrication of metal capping is still ongoing.</p><p>“Ang activity [ngayon] ay magkaroon ng metal capping within the week, production ng metal capping. Next week, ilalagay na ‘yong mga metal caps. The PCG also reported that equipment and personnel are being organized on-site, and an operational base is being established.</p><p>“Hindi siya ganon kadali. Huwag nating i-rush ‘yong procedure. May mga safety consideration dito at ‘yon ang pinaga-aralan nating mabuti.
