Julian has intensified into a super typhoon and is now moving near the boundary of the Philippine area of responsibility, weather bureau PAGASA said Tuesday. 

At 4 a.m. Tuesday, Super Typhoon Julian was located 205 km west of Itbayat, Batanes, packing winds of 185 kph and gusts reaching up to 230 kph. It is moving west northwestward.

Julian may intensify further and exit the PAR briefly this Tuesday.

Julian will make landfall over southwestern Taiwan on Wednesday and weaken into a severe tropical storm and exit the Philippine area of responsibility on Thursday.

Wind Signal No. 2 is hoisted in the following areas:

Babuyan Islands, 

the northern portion of Ilocos Norte (Bacarra, Pasuquin, Bangui, Vintar, Burgos, Pagudpud, Dumalneg, Adams), 

and the northwestern portion of mainland Cagayan (Santa Praxedes, Claveria, Sanchez-Mira)


Signal No. 1 remains hoisted in 16 areas in Northern and Central Luzon.

The super typhoon will still bring significant rains and strong winds over Northern Luzon this Tuesday.
