(C) PBA Images.</figcaption></figure></div>MANILA (UPDATED) — Barangay Ginebra San Miguel successfully punched their ticket into the 2023-24 PBA Commissioner’s Cup Semifinals.Tim Cone and his troops took care of business against the NorthPort Batang Pier, 106-93, during their quarterfinals matchup on Friday at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.But the winningest coach in league history was far from satisfied despite the victory, especially since after leading by 20 at halftime, Ginebra allowed NorthPort to fight back in the last 24 minutes of play.“I’m really disappointed with our play in the second half,” expressed Cone following their win that was led by Tony Bishop’s 31-point, 15-rebound game, and the high-flying Jamie Malonzo’s 21 markers and seven boards. “I thought we played with playoff intensity in the first half, only giving up 35 points, and I really liked our effort and our focus,&quot; added Coach Tim.“Second half, we came out, we were a little bit sloppy. We weren’t getting back well on defense, and we started taking the game a little bit for granted.” With the win, the Gin Kings arranged a semis clash with their sister team, the San Miguel Beermen. SMB earlier eliminated the Rain Or Shine ElastoPainters in their own q’finals bout. But Cone is aware that there is still a lot of work to be done for his squad, especially since they will be facing the red-hot Beermen who are led by Bennie Boatwright and are riding on a six-game win streak.“When you do that against San Miguel, you’re gonna get [blown] out. There’s a lot to be cleaned up before we could meet San Miguel on even terms.”Batang Pier young gun JM Calma led NorthPort’s comeback in the second half, with the former San Sebastian Golden Stag delivering 19 points and 10 boards.This helped the Bonnie Tan-led squad to throw punches in the third and final cantos, allowing them to erase Ginebra’s 23-point lead despite being without league-leading scorer Arvin Tolentino who was out due to injury.NorthPort tried to jumpstart a comeback in the fourth at multiple points, but Mav Ahanmisi, Stanley Pringle, and Nards Pinto hit timely treys to answer their opponent’s run and finally send them into elimination. Christian Standhardinger made his presence felt, putting up an all-around game with 18 markers, 10 rebounds, and seven assists, while Ahanmisi backed him up with 16 markers, five dimes, and three boards.Meanwhile, Joshua Munzon also had 19 in NorthPort’s conference-ending loss, and Venky Jois produced an 18-point, 14-rebound, 12-assist triple-double.
