UAAP Media</figcaption></figure></div>MANILA, Philippines -- (UPDATE) University of the Philippines (UP) earned a breakthrough triumph in its very first game of the UAAP Season 82 men&#x27;s volleyball tournament, after sweeping Ateneo de Manila University in straight sets.The Fighting Maroons posted an impressive 25-21, 25-20, 25-22 triumph over the Blue Eagles -- their first win over their Katipunan rivals since the first round of the UAAP Season 76 tournament.Ateneo has won 12 straight matches against UP, including a sweep in the UAAP Season 78 Final 4.&quot;Ang goal namin talaga, start ng maayos ang season,&quot; said UP coach Rald Ricafort. &quot;Sabi ko sa kanila, sa lahat ng adjustments, offense and defense, execute lang.&quot;&quot;Today, nag-execute sila nang maayos. He knotted the count at 21, before Ateneo&#x27;s Ron Medalla was sent back by the UP net defense for a 22-21 advantage.The Fighting Maroons scored four unanswered points, with Gamban adding back-to-back hits, including a down-the-line attack for match point, 24-21. A mishit by John Lomibao briefly kept Ateneo alive, but Ruskin Ijiran buried a hit to wrap up the game in two hours and 41 minutes. Gamban, who comes from University of Perpetual Help&#x27;s high school program, had 20 points, while Lomibao scored 11.Chumason Njigha had 12 points, and Gian Glorioso scored 11 for the Blue Eagles.
