MANILA, Philippines – No player was spared from Franz Pumaren's criticisms following GlobalPort's 96-113 setback to Barangay Ginebra on Wednesday, which dropped them to 0-3 in the 2017 PBA Commissioner's Cup.

The Batang Pier had no answer for Ginebra import Justin Brownlee in the third quarter, as the reinforcement single-handedly outscored them, 20-17, in the frame. Brownlee's explosion put the Gin Kings firmly in control, and GlobalPort barely threatened the rest of the way.

"It's still the same thing," said Pumaren afterwards. "We were there in the game, but the problem is those mental lapses that cost us the game, making the wrong decision defensive-wise. I can live with missed shots, but the defensive diagrams, we didn't see it in the second half."

GlobalPort got 29 points from Stanley Pringle, but Terrence Romeo was limited to 14 markers. To compound their woes, import Sean Williams could not match Brownlee's output; he mustered only 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting, on top of 12 rebounds and five turnovers.

"He's not giving us import-like numbers. That's the bottom line," Pumaren said.

The coach hinted that Williams may be on his way out for GlobalPort, pointing out that he has not lived up to his credentials.

"It's all under review," Pumaren said of their import.

Yet even though Williams has not been giving them monster numbers, Pumaren believes they can stay competitive if only their local players were performing better.

"The locals should start playing their roles, because even if our import is not giving us any import-like numbers, I think we can still survive," said Pumaren.

"Even if we’re not getting import-like numbers, the locals should also do their part. If we’re gonna play like what we’re capable of just like in the last conference, I think we will not be in this predicament," he stressed.

Pumaren further warned that "a lot of movements will happen" for the Batang Pier if they continue to struggle, although he does see a light at the end of the tunnel.

GlobalPort will be playing a winless Blackwater (0-4) team on Saturday, and the coach sees it as a golden opportunity for them to notch a breakthrough.

"We just need to weather the storm, and probably make the most of our game this Saturday," he said.
