The Lady Bulldogs scored a statement win against Final Four contender Adamson, 26-24, 25-16, 25-22, in the UAAP Season 85 women’s volleyball tournament at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City. NU hiked its record to 7-3 tied with the UST Tigresses and Lady Falcons, who saw their three-game winning streak end. All three teams are behind the league leader De La Salle Lady Spikers (9-1). Reigning MVP Bella Belen steered the Lady Bulldogs with 20 points and 11 excellent receptions while getting solid contributions from Vange Alinsug and Alyssa Solomon, who had 21 combined points.This was also Adamson’s first straight set loss this season.“Pinaghandaan po kasi talaga namin itong game na ito and sinet namin yung goal namin na dapat ipanalo namin itong game na ito kasi kailangan po namin manalo. Hindi na po namin kailangan matalo and yun, inapply lang namin yung mga pinagtraining-an namin and kung anong sinabi ni coach, kung ano yung gameplan namin,” Belen told reporters.After a convincing second set win, NU faced another tight battle with Adamson, exchanging points to one another until 17-all. An outside attack of Lorene Toring followed by a crosscourt spike from Cess Robles gave the Lady Bulldogs a 19-17 lead. NU stretched their lead to 23-19 as Robles scored an ace but the Lady Falcons rallied back as Kate Santiago had back-to-back points, trimming their deficit to one, 22-23. Belen then took over as she put the finishing touches for NU with two straight attacks to deny Adamson of a possible comeback. No Adamson player reached double digits with leading scorer Trisha Tubu limited to just nine alongside Rizza Cruz. In the second frame, the Lady Bulldogs broke away from 13 deadlock, dropping a 6-1 spurt which was started by a pipe attack by Belen for a 19-14 lead.
