MANILA, Philippines—Dawn Macandili&#x27;s reaction to being named Most Valuable Player of the UAAP Season 80 women&#x27;s volleyball Finals will surely be replayed and turned into memes by fans for years to come.De La Salle University&#x27;s ace libero listened as her statistics in the finals series was read by the Araneta Coliseum barker, almost as if she was unaware that she had done so much for the Lady Spikers. Macandili had 24 excellent digs and 13 excellent receptions when they swept FEU in Game 1, then registered 21 excellent digs and eight excellent receptions in another straight-sets win in Game 2.It was only when the barker finally announced her name that a smile broke across Macandili&#x27;s face, before she hugged her teammates and beloved coach, Ramil de Jesus.&quot;Sobrang speechless ako,&quot; said Macandili of the finals MVP award. &quot;Hindi ko talaga in-expect na ako &#x27;yung magiging finals MVP, kasi non-scoring naman ako. Sobrang &#x27;di ko in-expect talaga.&quot;Macandili may not have scored a single point in the finals, but if not for her, the Lady Spikers would be in no position to defeat the Lady Tamaraws either. The tireless libero lived up to her &quot;Miss Everywhere&quot; nickname in the championship series, as she chased after every ball and showed no fear diving, crashing or rolling to the ground in an effort to keep a rally alive.For Macandili, every dive, every crash was worth it – especially after she looked up at the huge scoreboard and saw that they had won the third set, 26-24.&quot;Dinouble check ko pa,&quot; she said. &quot;26-24. Tapos na, tapos na &#x27;yung career ko sa college, and lahat ng pinaghirapan talaga namin, bawing-bawi.&quot;Macandili&#x27;s path to being the finest libero in the Philippines has not been an easy one. At the start of her career, the Lady Spikers were in an unfamiliar position: they were not champions, having lost to archrival Ateneo de Manila University in Seasons 76 and 77.But they finally broke through in Season 78 – the same year that Macandili established herself as the best libero in the league. They would have a stranglehold on the title for the next two years, with Macandili continuing to anchor their defense and reception.&quot;Siguro, it&#x27;s the best decision that I made, na mag-La Salle,&quot; said Macandili, who had played for Zobel in high school before moving up to the seniors program.&quot;Kasi, hindi lang &#x27;yung skills ko &#x27;yung na-develop ni coach (Ramil de Jesus), but pati &#x27;yung character ko as a person inside and outside the court.
