The Tamaraws trounced the no. 4 De La Salle Green Spikers with a huge 25-21, 19-25, 25-22, 25-22 win at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum on Wednesday to set up another match against the second seed UST Golden Spikers. FEU has a relatively easier path to the championship as they need to beat the Golden Spikers just once, after the UAAP Board revealed that they have scrapped the twice-to-beat advantage of any no. 2 teams in the new stepladder format. <ul class="op-related-articles">	<li><a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/sports/05/03/23/why-ust-men-dont-have-twice-to-beat-edge-in-stepladder">UAAP: Why no. 2 UST doesn’t have twice-to-beat edge in men’s volleyball</a></li></ul>MVP candidate Mark Calado powered the Tamaraws with 22 points while Zhydryx Saavedra and Jelord Talisayan added 12 apiece to stay in contention. “Syempre po thankful. Si God pa rin naman yung center namin. Sobrang galing ng mga teammate ko. Lahat po talaga nag-contribute. Walang isa lang, walang dalawa. Halos lahat nagtrabaho. Nagbigay din ng best yung mga coaches,” Calado said. The Tamaraws quickly recovered from a second-set hiccup as they started the third frame with a 10-7 gap. La Salle would rally back after three errors of FEU to trail by just a point, 9-10. But Martin Bugaoan scored off a middle hit and an ace to widen their gap once again, 18-14. Jules de Jesus scattered some points down the stretch to trim their deficit, 21-23. But Saavedra went for a through-the-block kill before Talisayan capped the third with a checkball. Noel Kampton led the Green Spikers with 18 points while JM Ronquillo added 17 but saw their campaign ending as the fourth placer. FEU appeared to be controlling the fourth set as they built a 12-8 separation but Billie Anima imposed his presence in the net, tying the game at 12 after a kill block. Kampton would give La Salle the taste of upperhand as he scored a block point, 14-13. But the Tamaraws regrouped and regained the advantage as Ariel Cacao denied Kampton for an 18-16 FEU lead. It was a nip and tuck battle from there on with FEU keeping a solitary point until the final stretch of the set. Bugaoan hammered an emphatic kill before the Green Spikers committed an error to put FEU at matchpoint.
