George Calvello, ABS-CBN News</figcaption></figure></div><h3>Rondina-Gervacio, Quilario-Catubag advance to Round of 12</h3>(UPDATED3) Only two Filipina pairs were left standing after the opening salvo of the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Manila Open at the Sands SM By The Bay on Friday.The tandem of Sisi Rondina and Dzi Gervacio and the duo of two-time Beach Volleyball Republic national champions Karen Quilario and Lot Catubag split their respective matches in pool play to advance in the Round of 12 on Saturday.Rondina and Gervacio started the day right with a sweep of their American foes to give the home crowd something to smile about after 3 other Pinay pairs faltered early.But luck was not on their side in the afternoon match when a couple of miscues late in the extended sets did them in a 20-22, 23-21 loss to the Spanish pair of Paula Soria Guttierez and Maria Belen Carro, who topped Pool D of this $10,000, one-star tournament that offer FIVB ranking points with two wins.Rondina and Gervacio engaged the taller Spaniards in a tight battle in the first set with the Pinays tying the frame at 20. But the visiting tandem scored on the next play to take the set point advantage before pushing in a well placed shot that Rondina failed to control.The Filipinas saved two match points in the second set but back-to-back errors by Rondina in the next plays cost them the match.Quilario and Catubag, on the other hand, survived a tough battle against Hong Kong&#x27;s Yuen Ting Chi and Au Yeung Wai Yan, 21-13, 18-21, 15-11, in Pool C.<div class="embed-wrap"><figure data-feedback="fb:likes,fb:comments"><img src="http://sa.kapamilya.com/absnews/abscbnnews/media/2018/sports/05/04/20180504_fivb-beach-volleyball-tour-gc_307.jpg?ext=.jpg"/><figcaption>Sisi Rondina and Dzi Gervacio lost a close match to Spain in their afternoon match.
