Dennis Gasgonia, ABS-CBN News</figcaption></figure></div> MANILA -- It’s going to be a long grueling season for everyone in the upcoming Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) Datu Cup with each team playing 25 elimination games.This is why inaugural conference champions Batangas City Athletics-Tanduay made sure they filled up their 20-man pool in order to survive the 11-month elimination.“‘Yung pag-aalaga ng player, ‘yun ang importante, to keep them healthy because this will be a grueling season. 25 games? Elimination pa lang ‘yun. So talagang I will use all my players,” Batangas coach Mac Tan said at a press conference at the Century Park Hotel in Malate, Manila.Batangas City retained the core of its champion team and also made key acquisitions to deepen its rotation. Among the inclusions are former Kia player Bong Galanza, PBA D-Leaguer Sandy Cenal, and Lucas Tagarda.“Kumuha kami ng players &#x27;di lang para makumpleto ang roster. So we’re also looking after their mental and physical well-being,” he said.For this coming conference, which will open on June 12 at Araneta Coliseum, Batangas will again rely on core veterans Val Acuña, Paul Varilla, Lester Alvarez and Teytey Teodoro. Jhaymo Eguilos will be resting for a while due to a minor injury but Jayson Grimaldo and Dennis Villamor will be ready to fill up the front line.Bong Quinto will be out for a couple of months to play for the Letran Knights but will return to MPBL action once the NCAA basketball season is over, assured Tan.With the addition of 16 other squads to the original 10 teams, Tan admitted that it will be quite a challenge to win back-to-back titles.“We have to play with confidence.
