FIBA U19 World Cup: AJ Edu ready to join Batang Gilas preparation for Greece tilt

<div class="embed-wrap"><figure data-feedback="fb:likes,fb:comments"><img src="https://sa.kapamilya.com/absnews/abscbnnews/media/2019/sports/06/05/20190605_bballmainstory.jpg"/><figcaption>In the Asian qualifiers last year, where the Philippines reached the semifinals, AJ Edu averaged team-highs in points, rebounds and blocks for Batang Gilas. <em>File/Courtesy of FIBA website</em></figcaption></figure></div><p>AJ Edu arrived in the country this week to join the Philippines men&#x27;s national under-19 basketball team preparing for the FIBA U19 World Cup, which begin later this month.</p><p>Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas, the sport&#x27;s national governing body, <a href="https://www.facebook.com/samahangbasketbolngpilipinas/posts/2372887592769766">announced the development</a> on Facebook Wednesday, June 5.</p><p>Edu&#x27;s listed height is 6-foot-10, according to <a href="https://utrockets.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6394">University of Toledo</a>, the US NCAA Division 1 school for which the 18-year-old plays.<br/> </p><p>The Filipinos, expected to also tap 7-footer Kai Sotto for the U19 World Cup, are bunched with Argentina, Russia and host Greece in Group C of the tournament to be held in Crete, from June 29 to July 7.</p><p>The Philippines advanced to the Cup after landing in the <a href="http://www.fiba.basketball/asia/u18/2018/team/Philippines">semifinals </a>of the Asian qualifiers in Bangkok, last year.</p><p>In Thailand, Edu averaged 14.2 points, 11.5 rebounds and 2.8 blocks, playing 29.1 minutes in 6 games.
