<div class="embed-wrap"><figure data-feedback="fb:likes,fb:comments"><img src="http://sa.kapamilya.com/absnews/abscbnnews/media/2016/sports2/06/07/nu-060716.jpg"/><figcaption><div class="embed-desc">The NU Bulldogs will face either San Beda or Arellano in the semifinals. <em>Arvin Lim, <a href="http://sports.abs-cbn.com/basketball/photos" target="_blank">ABS-CBN Sports</a></em></div></figcaption></figure></div><p>MANILA, Philippines – The top-seeded National University (NU) Bulldogs withstood a tough challenge from a much-improved Adamson University squad to come away with a 65-57 win and advance to the semifinals of the 2016 FilOil Flying V Preseason Tournament on Tuesday.</p><p>In a back-and-forth game that saw nine deadlocks and 15 lead changes, it was Med Salim who starred in a crucial fourth-quarter stretch that allowed NU to take the lead for good.</p><p>Salim scored a three-point play, then added a three-pointer for a personal 6-0 run that put the Bulldogs up, 49-45, with 7:52 to go. Back-up point guard Rev Diputado then took over late in the frame, swishing a step-back jumper for a 62-54 advantage with 1:24 to go.</p><p>The Bulldogs, who were the No. 1 team in Group A at the end of the elimination round, advanced to the semi-finals where they will face either San Beda College or Arellano University.</p><p>&quot;More than anything, magandang experience for this young team to be in the semifinals,&quot; said NU head coach Eric Altamirano after the contest.</p><div><a href="http://sports.abs-cbn.com/basketball/news/2016/06/07/ikeh-carries-ateneo-perpetual-semis-12101" target="_blank">(READ: Ikeh carries Ateneo over Perpetual and into semis)</a></div><p>Salim finished the game with 12 points, while Alfred Aroga added 10, and Diputado scored nine. The Bulldogs shut down Adamson&#x27;s perimeter game, holding the Falcons to only 29% shooting from the field.</p><p>&quot;Med (Salim) played really well for us, especially on defense,&quot; Altamirano said. &quot;&#x27;Yun naman ang role na binigay namin kay Med. Every time we bring him in, he has to be our spark plug. He has to get the job done for us in the four-position.&quot;</p><p>Adamson&#x27;s outside shooters, Jerrick Ahanmisi and Robbie Manalang, who shone in their must-win game against University of the East on Sunday, were cold, combining for only eight points and 1-of-11 shooting from beyond the arc.</p><p>&quot;I think &#x27;yung mga perimeter players ng Adamson are really dangerous. They are really good outside shooters,&quot; said Altamirano. &quot;I think that was the key in this game, that we were able to shut down the three-point shooting of Adamson.&quot;</p><p>The Bulldogs, meanwhile, shot 45% from the field, and made 20 of their 27 free throws.</p><p>Papi Sarr led the Falcons with 11 points and 12 rebounds, while JD Tungcab added 10 points. After the game, Altamirano commended the Adamson team, and predicted that they will be a dangerous foe in the upcoming UAAP tournament.</p><p>&quot;That&#x27;s a completely different Adamson team,&quot; he said. &quot;I&#x27;m sure they&#x27;re going to be a better team come UAAP season.
