<div class="embed-wrap"><figure data-feedback="fb:likes,fb:comments"><img src="http://sa.kapamilya.com/absnews/abscbnnews/media/2017/tvpatrol/06/08/060817-gsw-3-0.jpg"/><figcaption><div class="embed-desc">After becoming the 1st team in NBA history to win the title after falling behind 3-1 in the 2016 finals, LeBron James and the Cavaliers need to one-up that accomplishment this week by trying to win the championship facing a 3-0 hole. <cite>Ken Blaze, USA Today Sports/Reuters</cite></div></figcaption></figure></div><p>By the looks of it, the Golden State Warriors have all but wrapped up the NBA championship by beating the Cleveland Cavaliers 118-113 on Wednesday (Thursday, Manila time) to take an insurmountable 3-0 lead in their finals series.</p><p>But is it really that hopeless?</p><p>In the NBA, no team has ever come back from such a deficit but in other professional sports that use the best-of-7 series in the postseason the odds have been broken.</p><p>ABS-CBN News looks at some of the most noteworthy turnarounds:</p><div><strong>National Hockey League</strong></div><p>Not many Filipinos tune in to this winter sport, but it needs to be mentioned that in the NHL&#x27;s history 4 teams have already pulled off the ultimate Houdini act. </p><p>They are the 2014 Los Angeles Kings, 2010 Philadelphia Flyers, the 1975 New York Islanders and the 1942 Toronto Maple Leafs. </p><p>The Leafs are the only North American major professional team to dig out of a 3-0 hole on the finals stage.</p><div><strong>Major League Baseball</strong></div><p>The Boston Red Sox&#x27;s American League championship win over the New York Yankees is arguably the mother of all miracles.</p><p>Boston was given up for dead after falling 3-0 to a juggernaut Yankees squad. Coupled with the 86-year <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curse_of_the_Bambino">hoodoo</a> popularly known as the &quot;Curse of the Bambino&quot; hanging over their heads, it was reasonable to believe the Red Sox were done.</p><p>But, boy, did Boston prove everybody wrong. The Red Sox won Game 4 in 12 innings, Game 5 in 14, then completed the improbable comeback taking Games 6 and 7 in New York.</p><p>No major league team prior to the Red Sox — or since that 2004 squad — has erased such a deficit.</p><div><strong>Philippine Basketball Association</strong></div><p>It happened just last year, when San Miguel had a foot in the grave in its PBA Philippine Cup title series with Alaska.</p><p>But the Beermen saw several players step up their game to force overtime victories in <a href="http://www.spin.ph/basketball/pba/news/san-miguel-spoils-alaska-party-extends-pba-finals-with-big-win-in-overtime-thriller">Games 4</a> and <a href="http://www.spin.ph/basketball/pba/news/san-miguel-alaska-game-5-five-pba-philippine-cup-finals-abueva-santos-fajardo-manuel">5</a>, before using a strong finishing kick to win <a href="http://news.abs-cbn.com/sports/02/03/16/smb-makes-historic-comeback-to-win-pba-crown">Game 6</a> and outlasting Alaska in the <a href="http://http://news.abs-cbn.com/sports/02/03/16/smb-makes-historic-comeback-to-win-pba-crown">deciding game</a>.</p><p>For more sports coverage, visit the <a href="http://sports.abs-cbn.com">ABS-CBN Sports website</a>.</p>
