MANILA, Philippines -- San Sebastian College has suspended veteran guard RK Ilagan for the rest of the first round of the NCAA Season 94 men’s basketball tournament, after he was found to have played in a “ligang labas.”

Ilagan, along with Colegio de San Juan de Letran’s Koy Galvelo, was found to have played in the Bobby Taboho Cup on June 30.

San Sebastian management had no knowledge of Ilagan’s participation until after their fifth game of the season.

“Ang bigay na namin kay RK, because of his kasalanan, ang management ng San Sebastian said RK will be out of the elimination round,” coach Egay Macaraya said after the Golden Stags’ 94-70 triumph over Mapua on Tuesday afternoon.

Macaraya later clarified that Ilagan’s suspension is for the rest of the first round. The sweet-shooting guard will be available to play in the second round of eliminations.

Ilagan already missed the Golden Stags’ game against the Cardinals, which saw San Sebastian improve to 3-4 in the tournament. He will then sit out their next four games.

“We suspended RK for the rest of the (first round) because sa kasalanan niya, admitting na naglaro nga siya,” said Macaraya.

Ilagan did not comment on his suspension.

It remains to be seen if the NCAA will forfeit San Sebastian’s victories where Ilagan saw action. The Management Committee is meeting to decide on the Golden Stags’ fate on Tuesday afternoon.

“Inaantay namin ang resulta ng letter namin,” said Macaraya, who is hoping that the two wins won't be forfeited.

Ilagan is averaging 13.8 points, 3.6 assists, and 2.5 rebounds per game for the Golden Stags.
