FIBA.basketball</figcaption></figure></div>FOSHAN, China (UPDATE)—The Philippines concluded the group round of the 2019 FIBA World Cup without a victory, after absorbing a heartbreaking overtime loss to Angola on Wednesday at the Foshan International Sports and Cultural Center here.Gilas Pilipinas rallied from an 11-point deficit in the fourth quarter, but Angola outworked the Filipinos in overtime to secure an 84-81 triumph in their last game in Group D.The defeat doomed the Filipinos to a 0-3 record before they travel to Beijing for the classification phase. Angola, for its part, finished with a 1-2 slate. The two teams will play Iran and the loser of the game between Puerto Rico and Tunisia in Group N.&quot;We lost this one on the breaks,&quot; said Gilas Pilipinas coach Yeng Guiao. &quot;But I felt that we had a really good chance to win, especially in the fourth.&quot;Andray Blatche played his best game so far, tallying 23 points, 12 rebounds, and 4 steals. CJ Perez continued to have a fine tournament, as the PBA rookie put up 17 points and 7 boards. Robert Bolick also reached double-digits with 10 points.However, the Philippines&#x27; 3-point shooting continued to be anemic, as Gilas made only 10 of a whopping 46 attempts from behind the arc. Still, they were able to keep in step with a bigger Angolan side through their transition offense, having scored 18 fastbreak points. They also grabbed 20 offensive rebounds that led to 19 second chance points.Yet their defense left a lot to be desired. Angola grabbed a 10-point lead, 46-36, after back-to-back open triples in the third quarter, though rookie ace CJ Perez helped Gilas crawl its way back into the game. Still, Angola headed into the fourth with a 56-46 advantage after a 3-pointer by Jaques Conceicao and a bucket by Gerson Goncalves.Angola took its biggest lead, 61-49, off two free throws by Valdelicio Joaquim with 8:41 to go, before Gilas buckled down on both ends of the floor. A triple by Jose Antonio knotted the count at 70, before Carlos Morais completed an and-1 play with less than a minute left to push Angola ahead, 73-70.Showing nerves of steel, Perez nailed a 3-pointer to tie the game with 33 seconds to go, and Gilas got a stop in its next possession to give itself a chance to win outright. Unfortunately, Perez mismanaged the final five seconds of the fourth quarter, and had to settle for a heave that went nowhere as time expired. &quot;It was my decision,&quot; said Perez after the game. &quot;I was supposed to drive that, but … maybe lack of experience, maybe. I don&#x27;t know. I think I should have driven that.&quot;He made up for it in overtime by assisting on a Pogoy bucket, and Gilas took a 76-73 lead after Blatche split his free throws. But Angola scored 7 unanswered points from there, capped by a Yanick Moreira lay-up that gave his side an 80-76 lead.A triple by Roger Pogoy kept the door open for Gilas, 83-81, but the Filipinos took too long to foul. After Morais split his charities, the Philippines had one last chance, but Ravena&#x27;s triple misfired as the buzzer sounded.&quot;Of course, we&#x27;re still disappointed. But at the same time it&#x27;s a good feeling that we&#x27;re able to give ourselves a chance to win the game,&quot; said Guiao afterward. The coach lamented the open 3-pointers Gilas missed, along with a couple of traveling violations called on his players that sapped them of their momentum. Still, he remained optimistic, and is now looking forward to the classification phase in Beijing.&quot;Going to Beijing, we&#x27;re looking forward to playing teams that might be around our level of play. I know Iran is going to be there, I&#x27;m not sure what the other team is. But we&#x27;re used to playing them, we know how to play them in Asia. So we&#x27;re looking at better games in Beijing,&quot; he said.Joaquim led Angola with 20 points, while Reggie Moore and Moreira added 12 points each.
