Josh Albelda, <a href="http://sports.abs-cbn.com/uaap/basketball/photos">ABS-CBN Sports</a></figcaption></figure></div>MANILA, Philippines – Far Eastern University (FEU) guard Ron Dennison fully expected to be on the receiving end of boos when the Tamaraws played against defending UAAP champion De La Salle University for their first game of Season 80 on Sunday at the Mall of Asia Arena.After all, Dennison was a central figure in the brawl in Davao two weeks before the start of the new UAAP season that brought both teams to national attention.&quot;Alam ko na &#x27;yun, lahat ng tao, lalo na La Salle, against sila sa akin,&quot; Dennison told reporters after Sunday&#x27;s game.Indeed, the La Salle fans showered the FEU veteran with vitriol every time he touched the basketball. Their boos seemed to have little effect on Dennison, however. More than anything, he was fired up by their jeers and taunts.&quot;Binu-boo pala ako? &#x27;Di ko naririnig eh. Akala ko, chini-cheer ako eh, kaya ginaganahan ako eh. Sorry, sorry,&quot; Dennison said sarcastically.Turning serious, he fully admitted that the boos simply gave him more motivation. Dennison already has a long history against La Salle, as he was also part of the team that was involved in yet another preseason fracas against the Green Archers back in 2016.&quot;Pinakita ko sa kanila na marunong naman ako maglaro ng malinis, at nakita naman &#x27;yun,&quot; said Dennsion. &quot;Hindi naman siguro sila bulag.&quot;<div>FEW FIREWORKS</div>But outside of an exciting end-game, there were few fireworks in the first UAAP Season 80 meeting between the two teams.The relatively uneventful contest was a stark contrast to the utter fracas that occurred when the Green Archers and the Tamaraws faced off in Davao last August 25. That game had to be stopped in the third period after punches were thrown and the game devolved into chaos.On Sunday at the MOA Arena, however, both teams went about their business. La Salle built a huge lead early, and FEU caught up late. Ultimately, the Green Archers held on for a 95-90 win to start their title retention bid on a high note.<ul class="op-related-articles">	<li><a href="http://sports.abs-cbn.com/uaap/news/2017/09/10/dlsu-takes-fight-feu-even-without-mbala-30766">(READ: DLSU takes fight out of FEU even without Mbala)</a></li></ul>For the coaches and the players involved in the Davao brawl, it was a relief that the game ended without much incident.&quot;Wala naman eh. It was just an ordinary opening game,&quot; said La Salle coach Aldin Ayo. &quot;We were excited because it was our first game, but other than that, wala naman.&quot;&quot;This is the UAAP,&quot; FEU coach Olsen Racela, for his part, said. &quot;&#x27;Yung mga nangyari before the UAAP, hindi naman namin kagustuhan &#x27;yun.&quot;Racela noted that Dennison was more controlled this time around. Indeed, outside of a questionable unsportsmanlike foul called on Hubert Cani with four minutes left in the third quarter, there were no untoward incidents.For this, Racela credits the referees.&quot;I think the referees officiated really well. They controlled the game,&quot; said Racela, who is in his first season of coaching in the collegiate level. &quot;Players kasi, ang tendency ay pag &#x27;di tinawagan, itutuloy-tuloy nila, and sometimes, things get out of hand.&quot;&quot;But except for a few calls, they controlled the game. Maganda &#x27;yung officiating,&quot; he added.Another player who was heavily involved in the fracas, Kib Montalbo, said that they have all but forgotten about the melee in Davao. He has also forgiven Dennison, the player who was accused of punching him and triggering the entire incident.&quot;Kapwa Bisaya ko rin &#x27;yan, so I&#x27;m all good with him. (I) even shook his hand… I forgave him,&quot; said Montalbo. &quot;If he punched me, then wala na akong pakialam doon, pero what&#x27;s done is done.&quot;<div>CAREER-BEST</div>Now the longest-tenured member of the Tamaraws, Dennison came through with a career-best effort against La Salle. He scored 21 points on 10-of-14 shooting, while also grabbing seven rebounds and dishing out four assists.Dennison also helped spark a late charge that trimmed a 20-point deficit down to five points with just a minute to go, but ultimately, the Tamaraws fell short as La Salle.&quot;Sayang lang,&quot; said Dennison. &quot;Nakakuha na kami ng momentum mga five minutes sa fourth quarter, pero kapos na. Naunahan na kaming tambakan sa first half.&quot;Still, Dennison and the Tamaraws take heart in how they were able to bring the fight to the Green Archers late, and believe it will bode well for their future contest.&quot;Maga-adjust naman kami,&quot; said Dennison. &quot;Move on na kami. Tapos naman na &#x27;yung La Salle.
