Paalam won gold during the match. <em>POC-PSC Media/File.</em></figcaption></figure></div><p><strong>(UPDATED)</strong> Filipino boxer Carlo Paalam cruised past Jordan&#x27;s Mohammad Abu Jajeh in his first match in the 19th Asian Games at the Hangzhou Gymnasium on Tuesday.</p><p>Paalam, a silver medalist in the Tokyo Games, claimed a 5-0 unanimous decision over Abu Jajeh in their round-of-32 match of the men&#x27;s 57kg weight class. </p><p>He joins fellow Olympian Eumir Marcial and Mark Ashley Fajardo who also advanced to the next rounds of their respective weight classes.</p><ul class="op-related-articles">	<li><a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/sports/09/24/23/marcial-advances-as-fajardo-makes-impressive-asiad-debut">Boxing: Marcial advances as Fajardo makes impressive Asiad debut</a></li></ul><p>Paalam steered clear of danger against a much taller foe and used his skills to land precise hits and score points. </p><p>&quot;Sobrang tangkad nya sa akin, kaya nag-stick lang ako sa game plan namin ng mga coaches ko,&quot; said Paalam, who is seeking to clinch a ticket to next year&#x27;s Paris Olympics. </p><p>He won silver in the men&#x27;s 51kg in Tokyo but that weight division has been scrapped for the Paris Games, forcing Paalam to fight at a higher weight class. The finalists in each division in the Asian Games will secure their spots to next year&#x27;s Olympics.</p><p>&quot;Pagsikapan ko talaga ang makapunta sa Paris. Gawin ang best every laban. Baguhan ako sa timbang na ito, so mabigat at malakas ang galaw dito,&quot; said Paalam, who won bronze in the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta where he fought as a flyweight. </p><p>&quot;Adjust ako dito dahil mahahaba ang mga kalabaan at sobrang galing din. Matalino din sila maglaro,&quot; he added.</p><p>Paalam will be up against Munarbek Seiitbek Uulu of Kyrgyzstan in the round-of-16 on September 30.
