Lervin Flores and Arellano soared higher than Allwell Oraeme and Mapua in their most important match-up of the season thus far.</div></figcaption></figure></div>(UPDATE) Arellano University booked itself a trip to the NCAA men’s basketball finals via a 92-80 beating of Mapua Institute of Technology on Friday at the Mall of Asia Arena.Jio Jalalon again led the way for the Chiefs, firing 22 points on 11-of-28 field-goal shooting to go with his eight rebounds, nine assists, and three steals.Lervin Flores also stepped up big time for Arellano with 22 markers and 10 rebounds aside from going toe-to-toe against Mapua’s reigning MVP Allwell Oraeme.Kent Salado chipped in 13 markers and nine rebounds.The second-seed Arellano came into the Final Four armed with a twice-to-beat edge over Mapua.It will be the second time for the Chiefs to appear in the finals in three seasons.“Sobrang saya kasi pagod na yung mga bata, pero yung pursuit of going back to the Final Four at Finals, nagawa,” coach Jerry Codinera said in ABS-CBN Sports.Jalalon gave credit to Flores for backing him up.“Thankful ako na nag-step up yung mga big men namin,” he said.Arellano was comfortably ahead of Mapua in the first three quarters.The Cardinals, however, threatened the Chiefs when Darell Menina’s three-pointer pulled Mapua to within 70-76 midway the fourth quarter.This forced Jalalon to step on the gas and fire 10 of Arellano’s last 16 points.Oraeme carried the fight for Mapua with 20 points and 24 boards. Andrew Estrella chipped in 15 points, but it wasn’t enough for the Cardinals.CJ Isit had 14 markers but left the game with a bloodied eye.Arellano will wait for the victor between San Beda College and University of Perpetual Help, in the other semis pairing.Earlier on Friday, the third-seed Altas pulled off a surprise against the Red Lions, 87-83, to force a rubber match.
