Richard Esguerra, ABS-CBN Sports</figcaption></figure></div>MANILA, Philippines—Perpetual Help head coach Frankie Lim is quite confident that his big man, Prince Eze, has done enough to win the Most Valuable Player award in the NCAA Season 94.“In the bag na,” Lim told reporters on Friday night, after the Altas ended their campaign with an 83-72 loss to defending champion San Beda in the final 4.Eze, the 6-foot-10 Nigerian, certainly has the numbers to merit the MVP trophy. He averaged 18.2 points and 16.5 rebounds per game in the elimination round, on top of 3.3 blocks per contest. With him manning the middle, Perpetual Help allowed teams to shoot just 37.1% from the field -- the second best mark in the league just behind San Beda (36.5%).Lim has been vouching for Eze’s MVP candidacy even before the season started, given the amount of time he played the big man: Eze averaged 36.7 minutes per game this year.“When I arrived, siya ang una kong kinausap, sabi ko I need your commitment here. You should be here and I&#x27;m gonna give you your minutes,” said Lim, who had taken the Perpetual head coaching position just in January.“With the kind of minutes I&#x27;m gonna give you, you will end up as the MVP. Kaya again, kapag ito hindi naging MVP, parang nanalo ang pato sa sabungan. Parang ganoon ang mangyayari,” he added.For Eze, however, the MVP trophy has never been the goal -- and he told Lim as much when they had their heart-to-heart at the start of the year.“Before the season started, he called me and told me that this season will be like, tough and he need me to cooperate and do everything, he&#x27;s gonna make me MVP,” said Eze, who had 13 points and 13 rebounds in his final game for Perpetual Help.“I said I don&#x27;t want the MVP, that I want the playoffs. He said yeah, it will come with the MVP,” he added.Eze and the Altas got their playoff appearance, as short-lived as it was, and it’s possible that the center will also get the top individual award of the tournament.It will be a fine farewell for Eze, who spent the first two seasons of his NCAA career in the shadow of Bright Akhuetie, before emerging as Perpetual Help’s pillar of strength in the past couple of years.“Well, when I came here, I knew what I can do. I mean, Bright is playing, I supported him, but I kept on working. So when I have my opportunity, I have to step up and use it,” said Eze.“And it&#x27;s been an honor coming to Perpetual to play, so everyday, it&#x27;s an opportunity for me to show what I can do. I&#x27;m here, I did my best. I wish I could have done more,” he added.Still, to have made the playoffs, as he so dearly wanted, was good enough for the big man.“We are here, it&#x27;s unfortunate that we can&#x27;t go any further. But I thank God. Last season we are 8th, this season we are 4th. I thank God, I thank the Perpetual family for giving us all their support. I&#x27;m grateful,” he said.As he leaves the Altas, however, Eze offered some words of advice to the young players that will be left in the team.“I hope the new guys and our players now, they know that they are no longer rookies.
