Josh Albelda, <a href="https://sports.abs-cbn.com/uaap/basketball/photos" target="_blank">ABS-CBN Sports</a></figcaption></figure></div>MANILA, Philippines – Adamson University coach Franz Pumaren hailed the composure displayed by his players after the Soaring Falcons weathered a remarkable comeback by University of the Philippines (UP) in their UAAP Season 81 game on Sunday.The Falcons led by 26 points, 67-41, late in the third quarter before the Fighting Maroons mounted a stirring rally that got them to within four points, 74-70, with still 1:34 left to play off a clutch three-pointer by UP sophomore Juan Gomez de Liano.But Adamson showed no panic, and its veterans came through in crunch time. Jerrick Ahanmisi, who had burned UP for 16 points in the third quarter, pitched a perfect crosscourt pass to <a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/sports/10/29/18/uaap-after-another-dagger-against-up-adamsons-manganti-insists-nothing-personal" target="_blank">Sean Manganti</a> who then drained the backbreaking triple for a 77-70 advantage with 1:14 to play.<ul class="op-related-articles">	<li><a href="https://sports.abs-cbn.com/uaap/news/2018/10/28/uaap-cj-cansino-gets-attention-kiefer-ravena-49002">READ: CJ Cansino gets attention of Kiefer Ravena</a></li></ul>&quot;Down the stretch, we have to rely on key players, we have to rely on veterans. I guess it shows here that what&#x27;s important is the leadership qualities of our veterans,&quot; Pumaren said afterward. &quot;In spite of the run that UP made, we were able to weather it. We didn&#x27;t panic, we stayed within the course,&quot; he added.The Fighting Maroons still had their chances, but another Adamson veteran in Simon Camacho ended any hopes of a UP comeback when he grabbed an offensive rebound off a Papi Sarr miss, then fed their big man for a slam dunk that made it a nine-point game with 26 seconds to go.The Falcons went on to win, <a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/sports/10/28/18/uaap-adamson-fends-off-up-clinches-final-4-playoff" target="_blank">80-72</a>, to secure at least a playoff for a spot in the Final 4. Pumaren acknowledged that losing such a big lead was a problem, especially after they gave up several three-point plays to UP&#x27;s Bright Akhuetie.&quot;Maybe the guys thought that UP won&#x27;t give up a fight after us getting that lead. They thought that UP would just give up. But this game is so crucial for them and they were able to make a run,&quot; he said.Yet even as he felt some concern as their lead kept dwindling, Pumaren never lost faith that the Falcons would pull through.&quot;I was still confident in my players,&quot; said the multi-titled mentor.&quot;I think that was a good test for them,&quot; Pumaren added. &quot;In spite of that run, we didn&#x27;t panic. Probably, a few years ago, if that situation rises, probably we would have folded up.&quot;&quot;But this one, we were able to redeem ourselves, we got back our rhythm, which is a good sign for them.&quot;Still, Pumaren knows that UP&#x27;s run exposed some vulnerabilities in Adamson. The Falcons&#x27; big men struggled to contain Akhuetie when Sarr sat out due to foul trouble, and they also had few answers for Gomez de Liano down the stretch.&quot;We just have to be consistent,&quot; said Pumaren. &quot;Like in this particular game, we just relaxed.&quot;&quot;We have to make sure that we have to be consistent on defense.
