<div class="embed-wrap"><figure data-feedback="fb:likes,fb:comments"><img alt="UAAP Media." src="https://sa.kapamilya.com/absnews/abscbnnews/media/2023/sports/11/04/11042023-jumamoy-breakthrough-game-powers-nu-over-ateneo.jpg"/><figcaption>UAAP Media.</figcaption></figure></div>MANILA (UPDATED) — National University scored a crucial win over Ateneo de Manila University to improve its hopes of solidifying a top 2 spot and getting a twice-to-beat advantage.The Bulldogs defeated the Blue Eagles, 65-61, at the UAAP Season 86 Men’s Basketball Tournament on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.Prized rookie Reinhard Jumamoy finished with a career-high of 21 points alongside three assists and two rebounds for the Jeff Napa-led squad.Jake Figueroa also served as the hero for NU after he finished with 18 markers, seven rebounds, and three steals, while also hitting the game-winning baskets for NU.Down by one, 61-60, after a Sean Quitevis basket off an inbound steal, Figueroa hit a booming triple to overtake the Ateneans, 63-61, with still 1:07 left in the game.The Blue Eagles, however, failed to convert as Jared Brown missed his next attempts, and Chris Koon committed an untimely turnover that led to them sending Figueroa to a trip to the charity stripe.Figueroa eventually iced the game after he went perfect on his two attempts.Joe Obasa finished with 11 points and nine boards, Kai Ballungay contributed 10 markers, and Koon and Brown contributed eight each, but these all went for naught as the Blue Eagles endured their third straight defeat.NU improved to 8-2, while Ateneo fell to 4-6 in the standings.
