NCAA: San Beda's Oftana is Season 95 MVP

<div class="embed-wrap"><figure data-feedback="fb:likes,fb:comments"><img src="https://sa.kapamilya.com/absnews/abscbnnews/media/2019/sports/07/28/20190728-san-beda.jpg?ext=.jpg"/></figure></div>MANILA, Philippines -- San Beda University&#x27;s versatile forward Calvin Oftana has earned the Most Valuable Player award for the NCAA Season 95 men&#x27;s basketball tournament, capping a year that saw him blossom from role player into a bona fide star for the Red Lions.Oftana averaged a team-high 15.6 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 2.7 assists for the unbeaten Red Lions, while playing nearly 25 minutes per game. He accumulated a total of 51.56 Player Average Value (PAV) for the year, leading the league.It was a massive leap from his numbers last season, when Oftana played just 10.8 minutes a game, averaging just 4.8 points and 3.0 rebounds per contest.Oftana is the first Red Lion to earn the league&#x27;s top individual honor since Sudan Daniel in 2010.Joining Oftana in the Mythical Team are the &quot;Bandana Brothers,&quot; Evan Nelle and James Canlas.<ul class="op-related-articles">	<li><a href="https://sports.abs-cbn.com/ncaa/news/2019/11/09/marcelinos-torn-making-lpu-proud-ncaa-pba-63107">READ: Marcelinos torn between making Lyceum proud in NCAA or PBA</a></li></ul>Nelle, San Beda&#x27;s sophomore point guard, tallied 45.39 PAVs after averaging 10.2 points, 6.7 assists, and 4.5 rebounds per game. Canlas, his running partner, averaged 14.1 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game for 45.33 PAVs.Also making it to the Mythical Five is San Sebastian College&#x27;s Allyn Bulanadi with 45.28 PAVs. He led the league in scoring with an average of 20.0 points per game, along with 5.1 rebounds and 4.3 assists.Completing the Mythical Five is Lyceum of the Philippines University&#x27;s Jaycee Marcelino. The former Rookie of the Year normed 18.6 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game.Meanwhile, Arellano University&#x27;s Justin Arana will receive the Rookie of the Year award after tallying 35.5 PAVs.Colegio de San Juan de Letran&#x27;s Fran Yu earned the Most Improved Player award. The diminutive guard jumped from 93rd to 19th in the PAV race this year.Arana also earned the Defensive Player of the Year honors. He was joined in the All-Defensive team by Oftana, University of Perpetual Help&#x27;s Ben Adamos, Emilio Aguinaldo College&#x27;s JP Maguliano, and San Sebastian&#x27;s JM Calma.The league also honored two foreign student-athletes this year, in what will be the last season where they will be allowed to play in the NCAA.San Beda&#x27;s Donald Tankoua will be named Best Foreign Player after collecting 45.28 PAVs.
