Jeck Battalones, ABS-CBN News.</figcaption></figure></div>MANILA - Enthusiasts of the sport padel converged at the Padel Manila Courts in Taguig City for the 4th Philippine National Padel Tournament. Nico Bolzico, husband of actress Solenn Heussaff, is one of the participants during the high intermediate final together with Josh Curtis. According to Bolzico, having a background in tennis helps one learn the sport quickly. He believes Filipinos can excel in this sport since height won&#x27;t be an advantage. &quot;Tennis is 70 percent and you need that 30 percent extra to learn every bit of the sport. I believe it was gonna be big in the Philippines. I see more and more Filipino players, more and more Filipino coaches and there were some coaches from Spain, Argentina, from all over the world,&quot; he said. &quot;They come here and are training tennis coaches to be Padel coaches.&quot;&quot;I believe it&#x27;s an easier sport to introduce than tennis, (if) you didn&#x27;t play tennis when you&#x27;re a kid it&#x27;s harder to learn. [But] I think Padel has a shorter learning curve,&quot; Bolzico shares. Padel, a racquet-based ball sport, combines elements of squash and tennis. Played within an enclosed space akin to squash, it features a net like tennis. Players aim to pass the ball over the net using their racquets. What sets padel apart is its unique use of walls or fences, where players can strategically hit the ball after it bounces off these surfaces to keep it in play. Padel is typically played in doubles, reflecting the game&#x27;s social roots, though it can also be enjoyed individually. Padel uses a shorter 88-cm net for underhand serves, maintaining the familiar mechanics of a race to 6 with a 15-30-40 scoring ladder, exclusively played in doubles. Recognized as one of the fastest-growing sports globally, Alenna Dawn introduced the game to the country in 2021. With a current membership of 10,000 and a growing number of active players, additional courts are being constructed to accommodate the increasing demand. &quot;We have a really growing community and it&#x27;s quite amazing because the Padel is a very social sport and now since we have opened officially one year ago so we have over 10,000 players, unique players so we have built a really great community and a strong community&quot; Dawn said. The Manila Padel club court in BGC is open 24/7 at 9th avenue corner Lane R.
