The Philippines men's national football team demolished Timor Leste 6-1 in the Southeast Asian Games on Wednesday, but that result still couldn't tow the home side into the next round.

A 3-1 win by Cambodia over Malaysia at Rizal Memorial Football Stadium made sure the former joined Myanmar in the semifinals.

Myanmar topped Group A with 10 points, followed by Cambodia and the Philippines with 7 apiece.

Amani Aguinaldo scored half of the hosts' production, while Stephan Schrock, Mar Diano and Dylan De Bruycker chipped in the rout.

But the Filipinos' eyes were directed in Manila, too, where they were hoping for a draw, a close match, or a low-scoring one.

Cambodia tried to extinguish the Philippines' hopes early, though, going up 3-0 and putting the pressure on Schrock and co. to find more goals.

When Malaysia got one back in the 89th minute, the door was left ajar for the Azkals.

Timor Leste, though, effectively finished off the Philippines when Nataniel Reis's strike slipped through goalkeeper Anthony Pinthus.

The Azkals finished third, followed by Malaysia (fourth), and winless Timor Leste in Group A.
