Alfrancis Chua won't coach UST, but willing to help in other ways

File photo</figcaption></figure></div>MANILA, Philippines – Strike one name off the list of potential head coaches for the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Growling Tigers.Alfrancis Chua, the team manager of Barangay Ginebra in the PBA and the sports director of the San Miguel Corp., told reporters on Wednesday that he does not intend to take the vacant head coaching post of his alma mater.&quot;Magko-coach ulit? Again, uulitin ko – dito nga sa PBA, hindi na tayo nagko-coach,&quot; Chua said at the sidelines of the PBA&#x27;s press conference at Okada Manila.&quot;Mahirap mag-coach eh kasi dalawa lang ang coach nga, isang tinanggal at isang tatanggalin,&quot; he added.&quot;For sure, I&#x27;m not going to coach UST,&quot; Chua said with finality.However, Chua is very much willing to help UST in other ways. Indeed, the SMC official revealed that he was already approached last year, and had already pledged financial help to the university in order to help with recruitment.Unfortunately, that agreement fell apart.&quot;Na-cancel &#x27;yun,&quot; Chua bared. &quot;Nag-appoint ulit ng coach, so natigil ang usapan.&quot;&quot;But I&#x27;m really willing to help,&quot; he stressed.<ul class="op-related-articles">	<li><a href="https://sports.abs-cbn.com/uaap/news/2017/12/11/sean-chambers-ust-34560">READ: Sean Chambers to UST?</a></li></ul>Like many UST alumni, Chua was very much bothered with the performance of the Growling Tigers in the recently concluded UAAP Season 80 men&#x27;s basketball tournament. The historic basketball program slumped to their worst campaign, winning just once in 14 games.&quot;Masakit para sa amin na nakikita naming ganoon,&quot; admitted Chua.Thus, even though their agreement last year fell apart, Chua remains determined to help his alma mater in some way.&quot;I&#x27;m willing to help, in any way na kaya kong maitulong,&quot; he said. &quot;If they need our help. Kung kailangan ng tulong namin, bakit hindi?&quot;Chua made it clear that when he said &quot;our help,&quot; his boss, Ramon S. Ang of San Miguel, is included in the discussion.&quot;Personal (help), and San Miguel. My boss, RSA, if I&#x27;m going to talk to him to help my alma mater, he&#x27;ll help, for sure,&quot; said Chua. &quot;Mabait naman ang boss ko. Basta sports &#x27;yan, lahat tinutulungan. Napakabilis namang tumulong.&quot;But Chua needs to know what is going on with the UST basketball program before he comes in to help, said the executive. &quot;Gusto kong makakita ng plano. What&#x27;s the plan?&quot; he added. &quot;As of now, parang we&#x27;re all blinded. We don&#x27;t know what&#x27;s going to happen.&quot;As of the moment, all that is certain is that Chua has extended his help to UST. There has yet to be any formal discussions between him and the school, but he has already been approached by a group of concerned alumni.In the meantime, Chua called on his fellow Tigers – especially those involved in basketball – to also come to the aid of their alma mater.&quot;Sa lahat ng bumubuo sa UST, madaming naging coach diyan na UST players, nasa PBA, maraming nasa organization ng basketball, magtulong-tulong na lang para ma-achieve natin kung saan tayo papunta,&quot; he said.&quot;Tayong mga taga-UST, hindi lang po ako, lahat ng mga alumni ng UST, mga naglaro po diyan, mga may negosyo po, magtulong-tulong po tayo para mai-angat natin ang UST ulit,&quot; he added.At the end of the day, Chua just wants his alma mater to rise again in UAAP basketball, after spending the past couple of seasons in the UAAP cellar while seeing support from students and alumni dwindle.&quot;I&#x27;m willing to help. Kahit ano, kung ano ang maitutulong natin, para maibalik lang &#x27;yung... dati, Go USTe!
