ANTIPOLO CITY – Rey Nambatac admitted there were jitters as he made his PBA Finals debut.

But the product of Colegio de San Juan de Letran powered through the nerves, dropping a massive double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds to go with seven assists and two steals to help TNT secure Game 1, 104-88, on Sunday at the Ynares Center here.

Nambatac happily shared the experience of his first Finals game, acknowledging that it was somewhat overwhelming.

"Actually, ang dami kong nararamdaman kanina pagpasok pa lang ng arena eh," said Nambatac, who was held to only three points in the first half.

"To be honest, sobrang kinabahan talaga 'ko. Tapos, lalo na 'yung nag-opening na, kinilabutan ako, eh. Tapos parang nanghihina 'yung katawan ko," he added.

As time progressed, it was Nambatac who conquered the tension and delivered the rest of his scoring total in the last two quarters.

"But good thing na-overcome ko 'yon. Dun nga, nung start nung game or first half, medyo nandun pa 'yung gigil ko eh and hindi ko pa mahanap 'yung rhythm ko. Good thing din nung second half, unti-unti ko nang nakuha, 'yon, nagtuloy-tuloy na."

The 30-year-old Nambatac, just like his mentor, Chot Reyes, is wary of Ginebra's capabilities and looks forward to adjustments they could do to prevent their rivals from gaining momentum.

"I think 'yung mga konting lapses [na] pwedeng magbigay ng momentum sa kanila. Kasi 'yon 'yung iniiwasan namin, dahil knowing Ginebra, 'pag nabigyan mo sila ng momentum and chances, mag-o-all the way sila, eh. 'Yun 'yung titingnan namin sa viewing bukas."

The Tropang Giga aim for a 2-0 lead as they battle the Gin Kings on Wednesday, October 30, at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
