Sophia Dignadice proudly carries family name on the basketball court

<div><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1731718119595Dignadice1.jpg" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/></div><p>TORRANCE, California — State champion, California’s Sophomore of the Year, and with long-range shooting skills, Sophia Dignadice is one of the most exciting girl high school basketball prospects.</p><p>The 16-year-old Filipino-American attributes her success to a couple of things: love and confidence.</p><p>&quot;It’s important to have love for the sport you’re doing, especially because basketball, it’s 70% mindset, I changed my mindset so much,&quot; she said.</p><p>&quot;This year has been a successful year for me because I became more confident in myself, and confidence just comes from the love of the sport you do. Because you get a few offers doesn’t mean you stop working, you still have to put the same amount, if not more work in because it&#x27;s great, it&#x27;s just a motivation,&quot; she said.</p><div><script data-wid="auto" type="text/javascript" src="https://content.viralize.tv/display/?zid=AAEyze-tm4MR6kEa&amp;cid=ABQaNTJ3r0ztbM6H&amp;activation=click&amp;vip_mode=playing&amp;vip_position=bottom-right"></script></div><p>Wearing a number 12 with the Dignadice name on her jersey may be a familiar sight for Philippine sports fans.</p><p>Sophia is the youngest daughter of nine-time PBA Champion, three-time all-star, and FIBA Asia champion Yves Dignadice, a big man who spent most of his 14-year career playing for the San Miguel Beermen.</p><p>&quot;Having the Dignadice name, it’s such an honor because of how great of a player he was, in the PBA and l can carry that legacy. She really loves basketball, she plays a lot, she works out hard,&quot; Yves Dignadice recalled. </p><p>Along with his daughter, the PBA Legend has also been coaching several other Filipina American prospects.</p><p>Sophia herself is National Team eligible and acquired her Philippine passport earlier this year.</p>
